Big Island home sales, prices down

Home sales on the Big Island were down in April, while the median price of a condominium shot up more than 50 percent because of a surge of sales in South Kohala, a favorite of affluent vacation homebuyers. The median price of a condo on the Big Island last month was $609,900, a 58 percent jump over April 2007, when the median price was $385,000, according to statistics released Monday by Hawaii Information Service.
